I am a Chicago-based freelance motion designer with a passion for fun, challenging motion design work. Over the past decade, I’ve had full-time jobs at TV networks and design studios, but have spent most of my career as a freelancer.
What is the source of inspiration for your work?
I try to find inspiration in many sources. Whether it be movies, comic books, magazines, and especially my Instagram feed (which is populated with all of my favorite design studios and artists)
What kind of technology, technical or software do you use?
I use Adobe After Effects for most of my work. Over the years, I have also become pretty comfortable using Cinema 4D for 3D animations.
Over the past 2 years, I’ve been teaching myself cel animation using Photoshop.
I encourage all artists to work outside of their comfort zone and experiment.
Why can your work be a source of inspiration for others?
It is very flattering when an artist contacts me and tells me that my work has been an inspiration to them.
Even though I’ve been doing this for over a decade, I feel like I still have a lot to learn.
Hopefully, people who have followed my career have noticed that my skill set has expanded and my styles have broadened.
Most of the time that I’m hired as a freelancer, it is for 2D motion design. But in my free time, I have explored 3D design, illustration, character design, and cel animation.
I hope people know that whatever style/skills they have when they enter this field doesn’t have to be the style that you are stuck with.
